The Cold Spring Harbor DNA Learning Center Summer Research program is a prestigious hands-on science experience offered by one of the world's leading genetics research institutions. High school students in grades 9 to 12 can enroll in the Research Preparation Track, where they conduct real laboratory experiments in fields such as DNA Science, Genome Science, Synthetic Biology, BioCoding, and Genome Sequencing using professional tools and techniques. Sessions run for one week between June and September 2026, with costs ranging from $420 to $700 depending on the format. This program is an outstanding opportunity for students passionate about biology and research to build advanced laboratory skills in a world-class scientific environment.
Running experiments safely and accurately using real scientific equipment and procedures.
Designing studies, testing hypotheses, and drawing evidence-based conclusions.
Evaluating information carefully before drawing a conclusion or making a decision.
Breaking down a challenge and working through it methodically to a solution.
Making sense of numbers and datasets to find patterns, test ideas, and support decisions.
Students conduct hands-on forensic investigation experiments and crime lab techniques directly aligned with forensic science work.
Advanced research track teaches real-world research skills and techniques for independent research projects in biology.
Camps provide hands-on experience with modern biology tools, techniques, and DNA analysis central to biological research.
DNA and genetic research foundation builds scientific literacy and lab skills relevant to medical training.
