Chicago, ILFall 2026 session (specific duration not stated)Apply by: September 7, 2026

Far Horizons Teens is a high school research program at the Adler Planetarium in Chicago where students in grades 9 to 12 conduct authentic scientific investigations into light pollution and its effects on local ecosystems. Participants work directly alongside the Far Horizons research team on Project LEAF it in the Dark, a long-term ecological study examining how light pollution influences seasonal changes in trees. Students develop real research skills while contributing to meaningful, ongoing scientific work in and around the Chicago area. This is a rare opportunity for high schoolers to engage in genuine scientific inquiry at one of the country's most renowned science institutions.
