Chicago, IL4 weeks

Research in the Biological Sciences (RIBS) is a four-week intensive summer program at the University of Chicago where high school students in grades 10 and 11 train and conduct independent research in a real university laboratory setting. The program begins with two weeks of hands-on training in foundational molecular, microbiological, and cell biological techniques, followed by two weeks of independent research in areas such as genetics, developmental biology, and cancer biology. Students spend the majority of their days working at the bench, supported by lectures and weekly writing assignments that mirror the experience of an actual research scientist. RIBS is one of the most immersive and rigorous science research opportunities available to high school students, offering a rare chance to engage with cutting-edge biological science at one of the country's leading research universities.
