The Stanford Institutes of Medicine Summer Research Program (SIMR) is a highly selective eight-week biomedical research program for high school students hosted by the Stanford University School of Medicine. Students work full time in Stanford labs alongside faculty, graduate students, and postdoctoral researchers on medically oriented projects in fields such as cancer biology, neuroscience, immunology, bioengineering, and genetics. The program is designed to give students direct exposure to real scientific research, including hypothesis driven experimentation, lab techniques, and scientific communication through seminars and a final research presentation. SIMR emphasizes hands on learning, mentorship, and developing an understanding of how modern biomedical research is conducted, while also encouraging students to explore potential careers in medicine and the life sciences.
