MDI Biomedical Bootcamp is a one-week summer program hosted by MDI Biological Laboratory that gives rising juniors, seniors, and recent graduates a hands-on introduction to biomedical research and scientific careers. Running as a daily commuter course, students work directly alongside professional scientists to develop skills in experimental design, laboratory techniques, data analysis, bioinformatics, and scientific communication. The program offers a rare opportunity to engage with cutting-edge research in a real laboratory setting, making it an excellent experience for students seriously considering careers in biology, medicine, or the life sciences.
Running experiments safely and accurately using real scientific equipment and procedures.
Designing studies, testing hypotheses, and drawing evidence-based conclusions.
Making sense of numbers and datasets to find patterns, test ideas, and support decisions.
Gathering and evaluating information systematically to answer a question.
Delivering ideas clearly and confidently in front of an audience.
Students conduct hands-on biomedical research with DNA extraction, PCR, sequencing, and data analysis using real laboratory techniques.
Program explores current biomedical research and cutting-edge laboratory techniques essential to the field with facility tours and scientist engagement.
Students learn molecular biology workflows, DNA replication, transcription and translation, and practice core laboratory skills with C. elegans research.
Students use bioinformatics tools to examine DNA sequences and learn to manage and analyze big data from molecular biology experiments.
