The BioGENEius Challenge is a prestigious national competition organized by the Biotechnology Institute that recognizes high school students for outstanding original research in biotechnology. Students submit projects in one of three categories covering medical biotechnology, agricultural biotechnology, or environmental biotechnology, and top performers from state and regional science competitions are selected as finalists. Finalists earn the opportunity to present their research at the BioFuture Conference in New York City, where they compete for recognition among the most talented young scientists in the country. It is one of the most distinguished opportunities available to high school students with a passion for biotechnology and scientific research.
Designing studies, testing hypotheses, and drawing evidence-based conclusions.
Making sense of numbers and datasets to find patterns, test ideas, and support decisions.
Breaking down a challenge and working through it methodically to a solution.
Evaluating information carefully before drawing a conclusion or making a decision.
Planning tasks, timelines, and resources to get a project done on schedule.
Students design novel medical devices, diagnostics, and therapeutics using biotechnology research methods.
Competition focuses on translational research in healthcare biotechnology, from genomics to drug development.
Students conduct research on industrial and environmental biotechnology applications like bioremediation and biofuels.
Competitors develop biotechnology solutions for crop optimization, disease control, and food security.
Students use AI, computational bioinformatics, and neural networks to analyze biotechnology research data.
