The Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES) Abroad program is a competitive, merit-based initiative from the U.S. Department of State that sends American high school students aged 15 to 18.5 overseas for a full academic year. Participants live with host families and attend local schools in partner countries including Ghana, India, Indonesia, Jordan, Malaysia, Morocco, Thailand, and Türkiye, among others. Students develop language skills, cross-cultural understanding, and global awareness through full immersion in their host communities. YES Abroad is one of the most transformative opportunities available to high school students, offering a life-changing experience fully funded by the U.S. government.
