The Careers in Science (CiS) Intern Program at the California Academy of Sciences is a multi-year, paid internship and youth development initiative open to San Francisco high school students in grades 9 through 12, with a focus on supporting girls and students of color who are underrepresented in STEM. Interns earn above minimum wage while conducting real science research, leading educational experiences for Academy visitors, and developing science communication skills through hands-on fieldwork and biweekly programming. Students enter the program in June as rising sophomores or juniors and continue through high school graduation, building deep expertise and professional experience over multiple years. It is one of the most meaningful and competitive opportunities available to Bay Area high school students interested in pursuing a future in science.
