The National Science Bowl is a prestigious nationwide academic competition created by the U.S. Department of Energy in 1991 to inspire students to excel in math and science. Teams of four students and one alternate compete in a fast-paced question-and-answer format covering biology, chemistry, Earth science, physics, energy, and mathematics. Each year, approximately 10,000 middle and high school students compete across 65 high school and 50 middle school regional tournaments beginning in January. It is one of the few academic competitions backed directly by the federal government, making it a highly respected and rewarding challenge for students passionate about STEM.
