Summer

The Program in Mathematics for Young Scientists, commonly known as PROMYS, is a highly selective and rigorous six week summer mathematics program for high school students with a strong passion for mathematical thinking. Hosted at Boston University, the program focuses on deep exploration of mathematics, especially number theory, through daily lectures, challenging problem sets, and collaborative problem solving. Rather than emphasizing memorization or competition style math, PROMYS encourages students to develop original ideas, construct proofs, and think creatively and independently about complex problems. Participants spend much of their time working through difficult questions individually and in groups, supported by mentors and professional mathematicians, and may also engage in research projects or advanced seminars. The program fosters a close knit intellectual community and is designed to help students develop the mindset and habits of professional mathematicians while building lasting connections with peers who share their interests.
