The Stanford Young Investigators program is a competitive high school internship in environmental science and sustainability offered through the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability. It is designed for students who live in the Bay Area and have completed at least one year of high school, giving them the opportunity to participate in real research projects alongside Stanford scientists and graduate researchers. Students are placed into research groups where they explore topics in areas such as Earth science, ecology, energy, climate, and environmental systems. The program emphasizes hands on learning through lab work, field activities, weekly seminars, and mentorship from Stanford researchers. Participants also develop science communication skills by sharing their work through writing, presentations, and collaborative activities. The program is primarily focused on providing local students with early exposure to academic research environments and helping them build foundational skills and interest in sustainability related fields. It is part of Stanford’s broader mission within the Doerr School of Sustainability to engage students in real world environmental problem solving and scientific inquiry.
