The Lincoln Laboratory Radar Introduction for Student Engineers, commonly known as LLRISE, is a highly selective two week summer STEM program for rising high school seniors hosted by MIT Lincoln Laboratory. The program focuses on hands on, project based learning in engineering, where students learn the fundamentals of radar technology and then apply that knowledge by designing and building their own radar systems. Through a combination of lectures, laboratory work, and collaborative projects, participants explore topics such as electromagnetics, signal processing, circuitry, and the Doppler effect while working closely with professional scientists and engineers. Students live on MIT’s campus and gain exposure to real research environments, culminating in presentations or demonstrations of their work. The program emphasizes technical skill development, teamwork, and exposure to advanced engineering concepts, while also aiming to expand access to STEM opportunities for talented students from a wide range of backgrounds.
