The Summer Academic Research Experience (SARE) is an eight-week intensive summer program at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine designed for high school students from low-income and educationally under-resourced backgrounds, including first-generation college students. Participants conduct hands-on biomedical research in top laboratories while taking advanced courses in scientific writing, data analysis, mathematics, and bioethics. The program focuses on four core pillars (mentoring, professionalism, research, and academic fortification) to prepare students for careers in science and medicine. Students who complete the program receive a $3,000 stipend, making this an incredibly valuable and accessible opportunity for aspiring researchers.
