Hk Maker Lab is a free, five-week summer engineering design program for rising high school juniors and seniors from low-resource backgrounds in New York City. Run by HYPOTHEKIDS, INC. in partnership with Columbia University, students spend the first three weeks taking courses taught by Columbia Engineering faculty in fields like biomedical engineering and innovation and design. The program culminates in a Hackathon for Health Equity, where students apply their skills in engineering principles, design innovation, and digital media creation to real-world challenges. It is a remarkable opportunity for young New Yorkers to gain hands-on STEM experience at one of the country's top universities, completely free of charge.
