The Aerospace and Aviation Academy, offered by Envision by WorldStrides in partnership with Rice University, is an immersive summer program for students in grades 9 through 12 who are passionate about aerospace engineering and flight technology. Participants live and learn on the Rice University campus, working alongside faculty and aerospace professionals on hands-on projects like designing and launching rockets and satellites carried by high-altitude weather balloons. The program blends classroom instruction with real-world application through wind tunnel experiments and flight simulators, giving students a genuine taste of what it means to work in the aerospace industry. For any high schooler dreaming of a future in aviation or engineering, this is an extraordinary opportunity to build skills, gain experience, and connect with a community of like-minded peers.
Breaking down a challenge and working through it methodically to a solution.
Modeling parts and products in 3D software before they're built for real.
Guiding a group toward a shared goal and keeping everyone moving together.
Evaluating information carefully before drawing a conclusion or making a decision.
Planning tasks, timelines, and resources to get a project done on schedule.
Students design, build, and launch rockets and satellites while learning propulsion and flight technology directly from aerospace professionals.
Hands-on prototype design and testing of rocket concepts applies core mechanical engineering design and build processes.
Working with flight simulators and high-altitude weather balloon satellite missions introduces systems integration and coordination.
