The Nancy Thorp Poetry Contest, sponsored by Hollins University, is a free annual competition open to sophomore and junior high school girls that recognizes outstanding original poetry. Participants submit one or two unpublished poems, which are reviewed blind by Hollins faculty and M.F.A. students in the university's prestigious creative writing program. Winners receive cash prizes, publication in Hollins' literary magazine *Cargoes*, and scholarships of up to $5,000—making it an exceptional opportunity for young poets to gain recognition and support for their future education.
