Summer

The Carnegie Mellon Computer Science Scholars program, often called CS Scholars, is a highly selective and fully funded four week residential summer program for rising high school juniors that introduces students to computer science through rigorous academic coursework, hands on projects, and mentorship from Carnegie Mellon faculty and researchers. Hosted on Carnegie Mellon’s campus in Pittsburgh, the program is designed especially for students who may have limited access to computer science opportunities and emphasizes expanding participation in the field. Participants study foundational programming, computational thinking, and mathematics while engaging in collaborative projects, faculty lectures, college preparation workshops, and industry experiences that expose them to real world applications of computing. The program also includes seminars on admissions, financial aid, and personal development, helping students prepare for both college and future careers in technology. Through its combination of technical education, community building, and professional exposure, CS Scholars aims to develop both computing skills and confidence while creating pathways for talented students to pursue advanced opportunities in computer science and related STEM fields.
