The Congressional Art Competition, also known as the Artistic Discovery Contest, is a nationwide visual arts competition for high school students sponsored annually by members of the U.S. House of Representatives. Established in 1982, the program is designed to recognize and encourage artistic talent across the country, with students submitting original artwork through their local congressional district. Entries are judged by panels of local artists, and one winner is selected from each district. These winning works are displayed for about one year in the U.S. Capitol, where they are viewed by members of Congress, staff, and visitors from around the world. Winners are also recognized both locally and at an annual ceremony in Washington, D.C., providing students with national recognition and exposure. The competition includes a wide range of artistic mediums such as painting, drawing, photography, and digital art, and emphasizes creativity, originality, and technical skill. Overall, the program connects young artists with civic institutions while celebrating artistic expression on a national stage.
