The Caribou Mathematics Competition (also known as the Caribou Cup) is an international online math contest held six times per year, welcoming students from Kindergarten through Grade 12 across seven grade-level divisions. Rather than testing rote knowledge, the competition challenges participants to solve interactive, puzzle-based problems that emphasize creative thinking, logic, and flexible problem solving. Contests are offered in October, November, January, February, April, and May, giving students multiple opportunities throughout the year to compete and improve. With free participation options and resources available, the Caribou Cup is an accessible and engaging way for students of all ability levels to develop their mathematical thinking on an international stage.
Breaking down a challenge and working through it methodically to a solution.
Evaluating information carefully before drawing a conclusion or making a decision.
Using equations and formulas to represent and predict real-world situations.
Setting long-term goals and mapping out the steps to reach them.
Students apply logical reasoning and pattern recognition to solve complex mathematical puzzles similar to data problem-solving.
Interactive games and logic-based challenges develop the algorithmic thinking central to software development.
Mathematical modeling through puzzle-based contests builds foundation skills for physics problem-solving and conceptual understanding.
Competing in advanced math contests (grades 11/12) and exploring math history prepares students for higher mathematics study.
