Youth for Understanding (YFU) is a global exchange program that places high school students aged 15 to 18 with volunteer host families in one of more than 45 countries for a semester or full academic year. Participants attend local schools, integrate into their host communities, and develop genuine intercultural competence through daily immersion in a new language and culture. YFU provides comprehensive support throughout the experience, including pre-departure orientations, in-program sessions, and ongoing guidance from local YFU contacts. It is one of the most transformative opportunities available to high school students, offering a level of personal growth that few other programs can match.
