The Aspiring Scholars Directed Research Program (ASDRP), run by the Olive Children Foundation, is a nonprofit pre-collegiate research institution based in Fremont, California, that mentors high school students in grades 9 to 12 in real scientific research. Students work alongside skilled scientists, engineers, and researchers across disciplines including biology, chemistry, physics, computer science, psychology, medicine, and engineering. The program operates year-round, giving participants the opportunity to conduct original research in a rigorous, professional setting. ASDRP is one of the most exceptional opportunities available to Bay Area high school students who are serious about pursuing careers in science and technology.
Designing studies, testing hypotheses, and drawing evidence-based conclusions.
Running experiments safely and accurately using real scientific equipment and procedures.
Making sense of numbers and datasets to find patterns, test ideas, and support decisions.
Training computer models to recognize patterns and make predictions from data.
Writing code to build software, automate tasks, or bring an idea to life on a screen.
Evaluating information carefully before drawing a conclusion or making a decision.
Students conduct directed research in cancer biology, drug discovery, and biomedical fields with real lab work and publications.
Program focuses on machine learning platforms for drug discovery and data science applications in research.
Computer science department offers hands-on research in programming and computational methods.
Research clusters in astrophysics and radioastronomy provide direct experience in physics research and discovery.
Chemistry and biochemistry department mentors students in synthesizing novel compounds and materials research.
