The SPJ/JEA High School Essay Contest is an annual writing competition organized by the Society of Professional Journalists Foundation and the Journalism Education Association that challenges students in grades 9-12 to write original 300-500 word essays on topics related to journalism, media literacy, and ethical reporting. Entries are judged on topic analysis, originality, voice, structure, and mechanics, giving students the opportunity to develop both their writing craft and their understanding of the press. The top three national winners receive scholarships of up to $1,000, making it a rewarding competition for students passionate about writing and media.
