The Alliance for Young Artists & Writers

All Year

The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards are a prestigious national competition that recognizes the creative achievements of students in grades 7 through 12 across the United States and Canada. Founded in 1923 and presented by the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers, the program invites students to submit original works in a wide range of visual art and writing categories, including painting, photography, poetry, journalism, and short fiction. Entries are judged through a regional and national process by panels of artists, authors, and industry professionals, with evaluation based on originality, technical skill, and the development of a unique personal voice. Students can earn honors such as Gold Keys, Silver Keys, and national medals, along with opportunities for scholarships, publication, and exhibition. The program emphasizes creativity, self expression, and artistic growth, and has supported generations of young artists and writers, including many who have gone on to become influential figures in their fields.
